Opossum Oddities, Darwin and a Backwards Comet
In September, the America Bless God Campaign hosted "Worldview Encounter 2". It was our Second Bi-Annual Worldview Conference. Jay & Amy Seegert from Wisconsin represented Creation Ministries International. Jay spoke on the complexities of the human ear and other fascinating topics related to the Creation/Evolution debate. Jay & Amy also showed the movie, "The Voyage that Shook the World" (www.thevoyage.tv) following the conference. Jay and Amy are a part of an exciting and informative ministry, so I was equally excited to get my first copy of Creation Magazine with an Opossum dangling about the front cover.
Creation Magazine is filled with a variety of article types: cultural issues, family/marriage matters, health related items, editorials, Biblical interpretation discussions, archaeological discoveries, not to mention the biological and the geological wonders of God's amazing Creation! There is even a Creation for Kids section.
In "The Opossum's Tale", Lael Weinbeger tells how the Opossum enters the pages of history eight years after Columbus set foot on American soil. The explorer Vincente Pinzon presented a Brazilian Southern Opossum to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain in 1500. The Spanish Monarch called the Opossum an "incredible mother". The article goes on to address how marsupials ended up where they did and the perplexities they create for evolutionists.
Here are highlights and links to a few of the other articles that I enjoyed:
- Backwards Comet Perplexes Scientists
- Trilobite Graveyard in Portugal
- Going Batty Over Evolution
- Would Darwin Be A Darwinist Today?
- The Giant's Causeway Ireland (Adobe PDF File)
You can order the magazine and see more great articles at www.creation.com

John Adam's 1799 Proclamation
America's heritage as a Grateful Nation exceeds our modern recognition of such. John Adams, the second President of the United States, had these words of wisdom for our new born nation. I urge you, as a Christian patriot, spread this proclamation to your friends. I took the liberty of making the proclamation a bit easier to follow with a bulleted format.
Proclamation of March 6, 1799 A.D.
- As no truth is more clearly taught in the Volume of Inspiration, nor any more fully demonstrated by the experience of all ages, than that a deep sense and a due acknowledgment of the governing providence of a Supreme Being and of the accountableness of men to Him as the searcher of hearts and righteous distributer of rewards and punishments are conducive equally to the happiness and rectitude of individuals and to the well-being of communities;
- as it is also most reasonable in itself that men who are made capable of social acts and relations, who owe their improvements to the social state, and who derive their enjoyments from it, should, as a society, make their acknowledgments of dependence and obligation to Him who hath endowed them with these capacities and elevated them in the scale of existence by these distinctions; …
- as it is likewise a plain dictate of duty and a strong sentiment of nature that in circumstances of great urgency and seasons of imminent danger earnest and particular supplications should be made to Him who is able to defend or to destroy; …
- as, moreover, the most precious interests of the people of the United States are still held in jeopardy by the hostile designs and insidious acts of a foreign nation, …
- as well as by the dissemination among them of those principles, subversive of the foundations of all religious, moral, and social obligations, that have produced incalculable mischief and misery in other countries; …
- and as, in fine, the observance of special seasons for public religious solemnities is happily calculated to avert the evils which we ought to deprecate and to excite to the performance of the duties which we ought to discharge by calling and fixing the attention of the people at large to the momentous truths already recited, by affording opportunity to teach and inculcate them by animating devotion and giving to it the character of a national act:
- For these reasons I have thought proper to recommend, and I do hereby recommend accordingly, that Thursday, the 25th day of April next, be observed throughout the United States of America as a day of solemn humiliation, fasting, and prayer; that the citizens on that day abstain as far as may be from their secular occupations, devote the time to the sacred duties of religion in public and in private; …
- that they call to mind our numerous offenses against the Most High God, confess them before Him with the sincerest penitence, implore His pardoning mercy, through the Great Mediator and Redeemer, for our past transgressions, and that through the grace of His Holy Spirit we may be disposed and enabled to yield a more suitable obedience to His righteous requisitions in time to come;
- that He would interpose to arrest the progress of that impiety and licentiousness in principle and practice so offensive to Himself and so ruinous to mankind;
- that He would make us deeply sensible that "righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people;"
- that He would turn us from our transgressions and turn His displeasure from us; that He would withhold us from unreasonable discontent, from disunion, faction, sedition, and insurrection; that He would preserve our country from the desolating sword;
- that He would save our cities and towns from a repetition of those awful pestilential visitations under which they have lately suffered so severely,
- and that the health of our inhabitants generally may be precious in His sight;
- that He would favor us with fruitful seasons and so bless the labors of the husbandman as that there may be food in abundance for man and beast;
- that He would prosper our commerce, manufactures, and fisheries, and give success to the people in all their lawful industry and enterprise;
- that He would smile on our colleges, academies, schools, and seminaries of learning, and make them nurseries of sound science, morals, and religion;
- that He would bless all magistrates, from the highest to the lowest, give them the true spirit of their station, make them a terror to evil doers and a praise to them that do well;
- that He would preside over the councils of the nation at this critical period, enlighten them to a just discernment of the public interest, and save them from mistake, division, and discord;
- that He would make succeed our preparations for defense and bless our armaments by land and by sea;
- that He would put an end to the effusion of human blood and the accumulation of human misery among the contending nations of the earth by disposing them to justice, to equity, to benevolence, and to peace;
- and that he would extend the blessings of knowledge, of true liberty, and of pure and undefiled religion throughout the world.
- And I do also recommend that with these acts of humiliation, penitence, and prayer fervent thanksgiving to the Author of All Good be united for the countless favors which He is still continuing to the people of the United States, and which render their condition as a nation eminently happy when compared with the lot of others.
JOHN ADAMS, Second President of the United States of America
May our attitude this Thanksgiving be as reverent as that of President Adams.

Flexible Discipleship Ministry
One size fits all doesn't always fit well with churches. Each congregation has it's own dynamics of character, maturity, staffing and ministry. Pastor Trey Kent of NorthWest Fellowship different church dynamics from those of Pastor Mark Westerfield at Central Baptist in Round Rock. Both are strongly committed to the Great Commission, and First Steps Discipleship Ministry is flexible enough to help both congregations with a solid approach to making disciples.Brent Bullock, Minister

Christian Anti-Defamation Commission
Christ and Christianity are routinely dissed in our society. Why do we not stand up for His name? Why are racial slurs viewed with disdain, and there is silence when Christ is profaned? Dr. Gary Cass and the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission are not silent on such matters, nor were the Apostles of the early church.
I urge you to logon to www.christianadc.org and find out how you can help silence the defamation of Christ in America.

Preserving the Free Market
The talk of the conference was Dan Smithwick's "Preserving the Free Market" presentation. Dan gave us an overview of new curriculum that covers the history of the monetary system from a world and a U.S. perspective. There are elements of this presentation that will shake the firmest pastor. Evil is ever present in this temporal world. This new course from Nehemiah Institute will equip you to stay strong through turbulent economic times and help turn the nation back to a righteous and just economic system.
I would be honored to bring "Preserving the Free Market" to your church, small group, or city. Contact me to learn more >>

Olde Tyme Discipleship
America is trapped in a new form of religion. Frankly, I think it is self-serving more than sacrificial. The religion of Jesus is an "other serving" religion. The religion of Jesus includes much tyme alone with the Father. The religion of Jesus is intimately familiar with the Sacred Scriptures. Jesus studied and taught from the Old Testament rather than discarding it. The religion of Jesus is evangelical, it is transformational, and it is powerful. Christianity in America has a form of godliness, but denies its power.
You can be a part of changing that. First Steps One-On-One Discipleship will equip you to disciple another believer. First Steps will give you the confidence and resources needed to help establish new or renewed believers in the fundamental disciplines that Jesus taught.
Our nation needs you desperately. Join us for an up-coming First Steps Seminar, or invite First Steps to your city!

Visit us at Hutto Olde Tyme Days
It's interesting to think about all of the changes in American values. Is the Olde Tyme view of family, sex, and marriage better or worse than today's view? Is the Olde Tyme view of the Bible and the Church no longer relevant? Is the Olde Tyme view of community even possible in a nation of big box stores? Can the Olde Tyme view of Statesmanship be reasserted in a culture of corruption?
I believe that all things are possible with God. I believe America can be saved from Secular Humanism, Pluralism, and Moral Relativism. I believe the church, the Bible, and Spirit of God are able to transform; even transform an entire nation.
Join us this Saturday, October 17th, as we distribute literature, talk to folks, and pray with those in need. America Bless God will have a booth at Olde Tyme Days, and New Hope Christian Church is holding an open house. Come to Hutto and check out Olde Tyme Days anytime from 8 am - 5 pm!

Changing the Face of Austin and Central Texas
"Imagine today’s church standing in front of that same mirror."

James calls a man deceived, should he look intently into a mirror, and then forget what he looks like. What does today’s church look like? Are we deceived about our own image?
So often, a wife badly desires to change her husband, yet fails to recall or examine her own life. So too, church members get disgruntled with leaders or the church at large, and fail to reflect upon their own image. As American Christians, we are annoyed and perplexed by our nation's drift in to uncharted moral waters, while we fail to persistently and intently look to the perfect law of God for self examination.
Let that not be said of us. If you seek cultural change in Austin and Central Texas, let it start with us. If you seek to change the face of a nation, let us look carefully at our own image, first.
Please join me this coming weekend, as we consider …

Worldview Encounter
The term worldview has become more commonly used, yet not more commonly understood. It is what it says; it is the way we look at the world. The world includes everything we know or engage in. It includes everything under the sun. Our worldview is the pair of sunglasses that shades our evaluation of the situtations we see around us.
Often, Christians have a worldview that is more Western or cultural than Biblical. We only desire or think to apply the Bible to a portion of our world. We especially like that part about heaven and grace, and especially dislike the part about sin, evil, personal responsibility, politics, and a host of other disdained topics. We are also selective in which parts of the Bible we decide to apply or not apply.
The America Bless God Campaign is excited to bring you Worldview Encounter 2. At Worldview Encounter 2 you will encounter a Biblical Worldview from expert teachers representing National and International Ministries. We aim to help you see and change the face of the Christian Worldview in Austin and Central Texas. We desire to help you more fully understand and apply the Bible to all aspects of life under the Son. In 2006 we brought Gary DeMar to Austin for Worldview Encounter 1. This year we have more great teachers converging on Austin to Change the Face of Austin and Central Texas. You'll not want to miss Dr. Gary Cass, Jay Seegert and more.Read more about the speakers and register to attend Worldview Encounter 2 >>

Discipleship City Words
An essential element of discipleship is "common temptations". This aspect establishes credibility and authenticity with the disciple. When we teach new believers about their new life in Christ, it is critical to establish the reality that trials, temptations and hardship are right around the corner. Satan does not like those who commit to love and follow Jesus. The reality is that he will hurl his same ole tired schemes in front of new believers. Those first few weeks can be very trying.
We can help new and renewed believers by specifically and authentically communicating that their new found life will not only be filled with love, joy, peace, patience and kindness; it will be accompanied by ups, downs, trials, tribulations and temptations. Authenticity is one key to establishing a firm foundation in Christ Jesus. A pretentious picture perfect portrayal of the new life is Christ is deceptive at best. Pretentiousness damages the testimony of the church, and sets up failure for new or renewed believers.
Forty-five folks, mainly from NWF, attended the First Steps Discipleship Seminar on Saturday, June 13th at NWF in

Limited Time Offer?
The chance not worth taking has to do with your child. If there is one offer you cannot miss out on, it is the chance to teach your child to know, love and follow Jesus. What on earth is more important? Is there any sale, any job, or any task that exceeds the God given responsibility of raising a Godly child?
The Jews call it bar mitzvah and bat mitzvah. These are the "his and her" versions of the age of accountability. It is that time frame in which children become accountable to God. It is a limited window of opportunity you have to teach and influence your child. Once they cross that threshold; once they become of age, the returns on your efforts begin to diminish. This is really a limited time opportunity, and you dare not fall asleep on the job.
"Hand Off" is the title for our Discipling Your Child Seminar this weekend. We’ll be holding the First Steps One-On-One Adult Discipleship Seminar, and “Hand-Off” the Discipling Your Child Seminar at NorthWest Fellowship in Austin this Weekend!

I Will Never be the Same

These testimonies speak to the encouragement that comes from actually pursuing the Great Commission. We talk a lot about evangelism and discipleship in the church. First Steps gives you the resources, the equipping, and the plan to actually do it. The seminar deals with the common obstacles to actually carrying out the Great Commission here in the U.S.A."I will never be the same"
"I've been waiting for a format for discipling others and now I have one. PTL!"
The seminar "convicted me to get on the ball. I am complacent".
"I dreaded the role play, but it was GREAT!"
"The simulation gave me the comfort level to be able to disciple others"
The highlight for me was "actually believing that I could disciple a new believer".
TownWest Church hosted the seminar, and the First Steps approach is increasingly present in their congregation. John Byrd, a deacon at TownWest, knows first hand that First Steps makes discipleship easy.
The seminar was attended by eleven different churches. Pastors and Ministers were well represented with Education Pastor, Barry Whebee, traveling all the way from Plainview, Texas to attend the seminar. The seeds of discipleship are being sown all across Texas, and we look forward to seeing the harvest.
What are you waiting for? Northwest Fellowship in Austin, Texas is hosting a seminar on Saturday, June 13th. You may also find a seminar near you or invite First Steps to your area today!

Jump Start for Jerusalem Pentecostal Church
Timeliness is one of the key elements in discipling another to love Jesus. The first 90 days of a decision for Christ are critical; Waiting 30 days for a seminar would eat up much valuable time. So, this past Thursday night, I delivered a two hour teaching on how to use the First Steps Discipleship workbook. Daniel and two of his key leaders attended the session, and Jerusalem Pentecostal Church is on their way to discipling these new believers.
More disciplers are needed, so please pray that God will bring more disciplers and quickly equip those that are willing, so the new believers will get firmly established in the love of Jesus. Send an email or call me to learn more about bringing First Steps Discipleship to your area.

First Steps moving in Taylor
Ten churches were represented at the luncheon and all attendees gave a favorable response to the presentation, and plan to support the April 4th seminar to varying degrees. Some will be sending a few key leaders, while others plan to invite the congregation at-large. You can read more about the up-coming seminar at www.hismoralbanner.com/firststeps.
I also visited with Rev. Daniel Alderette yesterday afternoon. Daniel had already expressed interest in First Steps, but was unable to attend the luncheon. The church Daniel leads just added 13 new members, and he had been praying about how to best help these new folks. After we visited, he read the Swimming Lessons book, and today he confirmed an order for 20 workbooks and we're scheduling a mini-seminar to help get them jump started. The First Steps seminar is scheduled for April 4th, and Reverend Daniel recognizes the need to start discipling these new believers right away.
Please pray for the renewed commitment to discipleship in your church. We can bring these great resources to your church. Other First Steps Discipleship Seminars are coming to Texas soon!
